A solitaire is a ring that allows a single stone to be its focus. in contrast, if a ring has smaller diamonds next to it those are known as side stones.

The halo of a ring is a circle of diamonds surrounding the center stone facing the same way as the stone. Where as a hidden halo is a similar circle of diamonds set perpendicular to the main stone, so that it surrounds it facing out. It is also possible to have both at the same time known as a double edge halo.
