are lab diamonds real diamonds?
YES! They are chemically, physically, and visually identical, no human (gemologist or otherwise) can tell the difference by looking at them. The only way to differentiate is with a high tech machine that is able to read how old the stone is by the way it phosphorouses.
A lab diamond begins as an earth diamond. A very small piece of a natural stone is put in a pressure chamber encased in carbon. High pressure and high temperature (HPHT) is applied which mimics and quickens the natural process in which diamonds are made. This causes the “seed diamond” as it is called to grow at an expectational rate!
